Get Involved with University Street Ministry (USM)

Since 1986, USM has been leading the way in making a difference in the lives of our young people. We rely on the generosity of individuals to successfully run Teen Feed and Service Links for Youth (SLY) programs. Without your help we would not be able to provide these important services to our youth in need. Please consider becoming a donor or becoming a volunteer.

Become a Donor, and Give Now!

Your donation will make a significant impact on the daily lives of our youth. Your generous support helps us continue to serve the youth in our community and give them a better chance at success. There are several gift giving options below:

$500 – Provide fees and application costs for Washington State ID for 5 youth
$250
-- Provide 20 youth, direct mentoring and support with SLY Case Management
$200
– Buy Teen Feed kitchen supplies for one month
$100 --- Buy 2 back packs & 2 sleeping bags
$50 --- Give toiletries to 25 youth

$20
– Buy bus tokens for 10 youth
$___ -- Other donation amount

You can also give by doing a donation drive at your work place, throwing a house party for USM with your friends, or setting up a bequest to USM in your will.

Every donor will receive our quarterly newsletter, The Teen Feed Times. Keep up to date with stories of our youth, writings, poems, recipes from teen feed meals, and the day to day, project progress.

Become a Volunteer

Your time is also a critical component of running our programs and volunteer positions are always available. You can donate your time in our office, put together a Teen Feed Meal Team, or become a youth advocate. For more information on volunteer opportunities, please contact Eric at eric@teenfeed.org.

Advocates – These adults, aged 21 and over, are the heart of our Teen Feed program. They are trained at the UDSPA Homelessness 101, a three hour course, and receive skills in listening and interacting with the youth they may share a weekly meal with. Proficient advocates will eventually establish rapport among the youth and share their knowledge about resources and services available. Advocates are selected during an informal interview process, and they must be able to commit to two hours a week, for a minimum period of six months.

Food Team Members – People of all ages can participate on a meal team. Food Team Members provide food (either purchased or donated), cook and serve the meals and clean the kitchen when done. We have specific nutritional suggestions to help our food team members plan their meal. This commitment ranges from once a month to once every three months. Food Team Members average three hours a month, with teams consisting of 5-12 members. Average cost per meal (serving 30-50 youth) is $85.

General Office Support – People of all ages can help at the University Street Ministry office. Support could include mailings, database entry, thank you cards, and sorting of donating items.
